Rate Truths

When all of this madness started, the City Council and the public were shown comparisons between our Grover Beach rates and those throughout San Luis Obispo County. When you live in a bubble, your ability to make informed decisions is limited. When shopping for a car, don't you look at what competing dealers will offer you?

Here is a comparison of sewer rates in SLO County. As you can see, Grover Beach is among the lowest rates in the county.

If you compare the proposed 2023 rate of $30.64 to Paso Robles, Paso pays a rate 86% higher than we do. Even Oceano pays 27% more than we do. And the rates keep climbing from there...

  • Oceano - 27%
  • Paso Robles - 86%
  • Atascadero - 106%
  • San Luis Obispo - 220%
  • Cayucos - 268%
  • Pismo Beach - 303%

Are we missing something here?

Grover Beach has one of the lowest rates in San Luis Obispo County.

Yet, this group wants to roll back rates back another $2.50/month and disrupt our city? (Keep in mind, the rates referenced above are for two months, split the difference and you get $2.50!)

Let's talk about $2.50 a month...

You can't even buy a 12-ounce drip coffee for $2.50...

You can't buy a roll of Scotch Tape for $2.50

To be fair, you can buy a big box of Swedish Fish for $2.19...

We're thinking we'd rather have our toilet flush for $2.50 vs. the Swedish Fish
